Steps taken by JSCE to protect personal information
The Act on the Protection of Personal Information came into full effect on April 1, 2005, establishing rules on the handling of personal information to prevent infringement of the rights and interests of individuals due to improper handling of personal information. This law does not apply to academic societies such as JSCE, but as an organization that handles personal data on more than 40,000 members, we have decided to conform to this law to prevent infringement of the rights and interests of our members and other individuals by taking the steps outlined in the following Privacy Policy.
Privacy Policy of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers
The Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) shall comply with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other norms of conduct in its handling of the personal information used by JSCE in its operations, voluntarily establishing rules and a management structure, and adopting, implementing, and maintaining the following policy to protect personal information.
1.JSCE shall comply with laws and norms of conduct concerning the proper handling of personal information.
2.JSCE shall clearly specify the purpose of use when collecting and retaining personal information, and shall not retain personal information except to the extent necessary to accomplish such purpose of use.
3.The use of personal information by JSCE shall be limited to the purposes specified in its Constitution and Bylaws. JSCE shall not use or supply the personal information in its possession for any purpose other than such purposes of use, except as required by law.
4.JSCE shall endeavor to ensure that the personal information in its possession is factual to the extent necessary to accomplish the purpose of use, and shall implement the necessary measures to prevent leaks of the personal information in its possession.
5.JSCE shall instruct its officers and employees, as well as external contractors and workers who handle personal information, not to divulge the content of personal information learned in relation to their duties to others without good reason or use such information for improper purposes. In addition, JSCE shall continuously review and endeavor to improve its management structure and measures for the protection of personal information.
