In this 110th Anniversary Edition of Japan Society of Civil Engineers, we explore the overall theme "The Core and Expansion of Civil Engineering and Engineers." Over the last decade, civil engineering has evolved with society. The COVID- 19 pandemic, the global push towards a decarbonized society, and technological advancements like AI and drone have impacted our fi elds. Additionally, Japan has faced numerous challenges, such as natural disasters and shifting social needs. These changes have been driven by both external forces and the internal strength of civil engineering itself. This edition is divided into three parts: "People and Society," "Environment and Nature," and "Technology." Each part examines signifi cant topics from the past decade, discussing how changes occurred and what initiated them. The issue concludes with a roundtable discussion that refl ects on these changes and revisits the core of civil engineers, offering insights into the future.
