To realize the ideal national land
Globally, the COVID-19 pandemic proved various problems and caused revisions of rules and plans in various industries. The civil engineering industry is no exception. We now discuss how the national land should be, and the JSCE published "The Big Picture of Revitalization and Civil Engineering in Japan after the COVID-19 Pandemic -Transformation to an Open and Attractive JSCE-." We introduce the “ideal national land image” in this special issue from different perspectives. The issue consists of two parts: the basic knowledge and the ideal national land to answer questions on national plans. They include a round talk and an article on Japan’s national land plans and the change in philosophy, the latest construction project proposals by JAPIC, and local public transportation planning. To illustrate future national land with other views, three authors contributed articles on their experiences and thoughts from forestry, steel manufacturing, and ICT perspectives. We wish to allow readers to think about their ideal country, what they should do to realize it, and motivation to be part of the challenge.
