Succession of local construction industries

This special feature focuses on history, issues, and challenges to introduce small and medium-sized local construction industries with established bases of activity and long, well-rooted histories in specific areas of Japan. The objective is to reaffirm the pride felt in solving the problems faced by society through manufacturing and to explore the direction local construction industries should take going forward. Many of the companies in these local construction industries helped their local communities during the postwar reconstruction and the following period of high economic growth and have continued to drive the regional economies throughout the years as the local populations have declined. We hope this special feature will provide encouragement for the young business leaders in these turbulent times who are now charged with the responsibility of safeguarding their local communities.
