A Vision for National Land

In recent years, divisions, disparities, and social isolation have become clear social issues as a result of increasingly severe natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. Civil engineers are in a unique position to reconsider national land in Japan in order to take on these issues and work toward a society that functions for all members of the general public.

This special feature is contributed to by experts in various specialized fields and discusses ways to understand national land from a wide range of viewpoints. Additionally, it offers an historical perspective on the formation of national land in other countries. In addition to asking readers to consider the direction Japan should take based on these ideas, this special feature also asks what role civil engineering should play going forward.
