Education for Civil Engineers: Toward the Realization of High-Quality Education in the Next Era

Today’s education for civil engineers finds itself in a transitional period, training human resources that can work effectively on an international level and coordinating various fields. The global spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has left education in a critical state. Educational institutions have been forced to respond to new challenges that include the limits of distance learning and ensuring the quality of education. At the same time, these challenges have reaffirmed that the infrastructure needed to allow students to take high-quality lessons anytime, anywhere in the world enabled by advances in ICT technology is being laid.
This special feature examines issues facing civil engineering education and explores the forms it might take in the future. Composed of two parts, the first half covers new education systems explained by experts from different fields. The second half takes a look at topics that include creativity on the part of teachers preparing teaching materials and achievement levels by students at civil engineering educational establishments during the COVID-19 pandemic.
