Development of infrastructure maintenance cross-cutting technology and its implementation
- Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) -

Three years has passed since the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) started. SIP is a national project organized by Cabinet Office and 11 themes was accepted to be going on as the most important social problems facing Japan and expect to contribute to the economic reconstruction in Japan. The civil engineers in Japan has been engaged into each theme variously and contributed to the social issues.
This month’s special feature is to focus on one of the themes, “Infrastructure Maintenance, Renewal, and Management Technology” (hereinafter referred to as “SIP infrastructure”) where many civil engineers have been involved. The outline of SIP projects and SIP infrastructure were summarized by dialogue between Dr. Kazuo KYUMA (Executive Member, Council for Science, Technology and Innovation, Cabinet Office) and Prof. Yozo FUJINO (Program Director of SIP infrastructure). Then, the state-of-art maintenance technologies developed by SIP infrastructure based on each research and development topic were summarized. Finally, future plan, international collaboration and its implementation were introduced in the magazine. If you are interested in the project of SIP infrastructure, the further information is available in the JST HP.
