The 8th Joint International Symposium on Disaster Risk Management

The 8th Joint International Symposium on Disaster Risk Management

- Education for Disaster Prevention, Reconstruction from Kobe Earthquake Disaster, and Adaptation Plan under Climate Change -

Updated on Aug. 8, 2014

After the 1995 catastrophic disaster of the Kobe Earthquake, the Kobe-Hanshin region which was damaged severely was successfully reconstructed already. In reference to Kobe-Hanshin reconstruction processes, continuous reconstruction for the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami disaster and adaptation for extreme weather hazard potentially caused by climate change can be improved. To achieve this effectively and efficiently, it is necessary to collaborate and cooperate with a variety of academic societies and organizations which work for disaster prevention and reduction. This joint international symposium is held by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, the Architectural Institute of Japan, the Japan Federation of Engineering Societies, and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations, and is supported by the Science Council of Japan. The main purpose of this symposium is to disseminate better disaster risk management (DRM) internationally by means of continuously holding an international symposium related to the DRM, and through global thoughts and discussions among DRM experts who have different backgrounds in their respective fields. The symposium will provide the global community the opportunity to discuss education for disaster prevention, reconstruction from the Kobe Earthquake Disaster, and propose an adaptation plan under climate change based upon experiences world-wide.
