Toward civil engineering that creates attractive landscapes where nature and human activities harmonize

In the midst of a changing natural and social environment, there is a need to create a truly prosperous lifestyle. While the Tohoku region has experienced severe disasters, it has also enjoyed many benefits from its blessed natural environment and resources, and has lived in harmony and symbiosis with nature. In the course of their long-term operation, the civil engineering facilities built to utilize nature’s blessings to enrich people’s lives have gradually harmonized with the surrounding natural environment, creating attractive landscapes where nature and human activities are interwoven, and contributing to the formation of local pride and culture.
In order to realize truly rich and vibrant local communities in the future, rooted in the natural environment and historical culture of the region, it is necessary to think more deeply about development in which local people are proactively involved and about sustainable infrastructure development. We would like to discuss the views and values that we, as civil engineers, should hold to achieve
