Feature Articles : Current status of historical studies in civil engineering - deepening involvement with society

Speaking of Historical Studies in Civil Engineering, most readers might picture it as an academic field that clarify how the historic civil structures were constructed and what technology and materials were used. No doubt they are absolutely major pillars of historical studies in civil engineering; however, a wider variety of historical research in civil engineering is emerging. In particular, at the present time new movements which try to change the traditional image have started to take place in various places. This special issue is designed to introduce the new trends of historical studies in civil engineering to our readers, and it is our intention that readers can have a deeper understanding of the significance and trends of historical studies in civil engineering.
