In response to 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake
On July 28th, 2026, Kumamoto Prefecture in the Kyushu island was struck by M 7.1 earthquake which induced heavy shaking. That earthquake caused extensive damages in Kumamoto. On behalf of JSCE members, we extend our deepest condolences and sympathies for the loss of life and property and to all who are facing this difficult time.
We set up an emergency headquarters in the JSCE office soon after the event and have been gathering the data of seismic activities, tsunami movements, and damages caused in the area. We will share those data on the website to be used for assistance, relief, and recovery services and help communities and individuals affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
