Feature Articles : A new world opened up by CIM
The overall productivity of the infrastructure industry is expected to be enhanced through the utilization of Construction Information Modeling (CIM) that can share information such as three-dimensional model data between concerned parties including public and private parties.
Under the initiative of the national government and with the collaboration of industry, government and academia, the development of CIM has been accelerated. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has established “Industry-Government-Academia CIM” in December 2014, and has planned to formulate CIM guidelines in 2016.
The development of CIM in foreign countries is fully in progress, and the coordination for international standardization is also making progress.
In light of these circumstances, this special issue titled “A new world opened up by CIM”, is an attempt to clarify the blueprint of the world of Civil Engineering changed by CIM.
The utilization of CIM has the potential to take its place with “Drawing (Descriptive geometry)” and “Computer Aided Design (CAD)” to become a major historical turning point in the world of Civil Engineering. It is our intention that this special issue provides an opportunity to improve awareness of CIM.
