Cyclone Nargis, Myanmar, 2008

JSCE will dispatch an emergency assistance and investigation team to Myanmar.

A destructive cyclone Nargis hit the central and southern areas in Myanmar on Friday, May 2. The government of Myanmar said that the death toll from the cyclone would surpass 100,000, many hundreds of thousands would be left homeless.

JSCE (Dr. Yumio Ishii, President) has formed an emergency assistance and investigation team to be headed by Prof. Tomoya Shibayama of Yokohama National University. That team will be in the areas on May 11 to 16 and conduct disaster investigations and relief and reconstruction operations in cooperation with local engineers and engineering organizations.
