JSCE Awards: Awardees and Their Outstanding Achievements

Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) instituted a JSCE Award system with the establishment of the Civil Engineering Award in 1920, and developed it twofold with the establishments of the JSCE Award and Incentive Award in 1949.

Afterwards, Yoshida Award was established in 1961, Distinguished Service Award, and Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award in 1965, and Tanaka Award in the following year. The JSCE Award came to consist of 6 divisions.

Since then, the Society has expanded the system by establishing more divisions in order to promote the civil engineering profession: Innovative Technique Award in 1983, Book Award, which was renamed as Book of the Year Award in 1991, International Award and Technical Service Award in 1993, and the award system has 10 divisions in total as it is now.

The JSCE Awards Committee has published the booklet of "JSCE Awards: Awardees and Their Outstanding Achievements" with the purpose of introducing some highly innovative project-related technologies and projects among the notable Award recipients'achievements. The Committee sincerely hopes that by presenting the feats of civil engineers in this booklet, they will encourage the civil engineering community to strive for further advancement of civil engineering technology and projects and promote a better knowledge of civil engineering among the public as well.
